energy suckers

Some days ago I read an interesting article from PickTheBrain. The title of the page was ”How to detox your life of negative people and feel good about it”. This is an area that has caught my attention more than once. How to get rid of your energy suckers!

What is an energy sucker?

If you think about it, how many times have you not met a person that really drags you down and literally sucks all your positive energy and leave you closed to depressed? OK, it may have been an exaggeration, but you get the point. The person in mind complains about their life and dumps their problems in your lap as expecting you should solve them for you. And then there is the person that shoots down all your positive ideas telling you that it will never work, it is too much work and so on. And the worst of them all are people that makes you feel really bad about yourself. As if you were to blame for everything! These are all severe energy suckers!

People like that should be avoided, but what about if one of these creatures is really a close relative or a “friend”? Well you can not change people, so my advice is really to avoid them anyway. There is a great quote from Mark Twain: “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”

Easier said than done, but in order to create a positive change in your life, you really need to distance yourself from negative energy of all kind and energy suckers specifically. Try to surround yourself with positive, creative people. So here’s some ideas for you to improve your situation.

4 Steps to get rid of your energy suckers

    • Make a commitment! Decide if you are worth the change. Ask yourself is this is the life you were looking for or, do you need a change? If you do, you need to take the decision and commit to it. Start using visualization to get a faster and more powerful change that will help to secure you from further negativity. You are on a positive track!
    •  Identify! Are you aware of the negative people and energy suckers around you. Notice your feelings after meeting people. Identify who leaves you feeling empty and anxious. Do you feel stressed after meeting one particular person? That is also one of your energy suckers! Think of a conversation you have had. Were there anyone just trying to find any difficulty possible all the time? Have you been talking with someone of changing your life and got the common response back; why should you change anything? We are safe right here. You may not think of a person like that as an energy sucker, but since you are not getting any positive feedback for your plans, they are.
    •  Say Goodbye! This is not easy, but you need to cut the connections. You may not do it at once, but try to avoid them, see less of them and as soon as your energy starts to rise, it will get easier. But don’t try to explain, because they will never understand you. And becoming enemies do not build positive energy! So say goodbye to your energy suckers gracefully.
    •  Reward. Do not feel quilt. If you do, remember the state you were in when you started this journey. It is not something you would go back to. You have committed to become a happy, positive and successful person, and leaving all negativity behind you is a small sacrifice. And who knows, your change may be a wake-up call for someone you left behind, and your change may inspire them to really try for a new life too. But most important, start enjoying a positive life and surround yourself with other positive friends. Explore your dreams and take the step to the new success that will follow in your new life.
